How to Stay Stylish in Cold Weather

When its cold, like really really cold , its becomes very difficult to put forth the effort to look stylish. So I'm here with some of my favorite tips to staying warm in this disrespectful weather, lol. Let me know what your favorite tips are to staying warm in the comments below!

Tip #1 : Chic Layers - This is the time of year to play up the layers, this adds warmth obviouslty but it also adds depth and interest to a basic outfit. Feel free to layer button up shirts, denim jackets, and leather jackets under your favorite coats and sweaters for a chic look!

Tip #2: Outfitting your Coat-  It's time to make your coat apart of your look! Accessorize it, belt it, and make it look so good that you don't need to take it off to show what's underneath. This is a great tip when you have to be outdoors for an extended period of time or you have to go in and out often. I like this look for outlet shopping and exploring outdoor monuments.

Tip #3 : Cool Accessories - Cold weather calls for scarves, hats, and gloves so make the most of these accessories with fun colors, prints, and textures. I love splurging on these peices since you will wear them loads and they are neccesities. Try out an oversized scarf or  fur stole to drape over your coat, or chic moto gloves to add edge to a classic coat. There are so many options for warm weather gear and this is a great way to add the cool factor to a simple look.

Tip #4: Try out new trends: 2017 was the year of the coat, we saw a few new trends emerge as well as trends come back around! Lucky for us they are all cold weather freindly , you can choose from the puffer coat, teddy bear coat, faux fur coat, or the over asized coat. All of these options are super cozy and can be found at every price point.

So who's ready to keep it chic and stylish all winter long?? I'm going to assume you're raising your hand very enthusiastically, lol. I hope these tips give you a little inspiration to keep that style going and show this weather you are not to be played with. Stay warm my loves, See ya!

How to Style: Monochromatic Outfits

Lets talk monochromatic outfits, the goal of this look is to rock one color head to toe. This can be in one shade, or a variation of hues in one color family. I am currently obsessed with this trend and I wanted to share a few of my tips and tricks on pulling this look off. Lets get into it!

FullSizeRender (21).jpg

Tip#1: Pick a color that you are comfortable in, monochromatic looks stand out so you don't want to worry about feeling uncomfortable in a color that you rarely wear. If you don't normally wear bright colors now is not the time to put together a head to toe lime green outfit (don't fall for the pinterest trap, lol). If you are more of a neutral person go for head to toe gray, camel, white,or black. They are super chic and give off an effortless vibe!

Tip #2: Play with texture, in order to keep the look from falling flat. There are so many awesome textures to play with this time of year, so try out velvet, satin, leather, lace, or wool to name a few. This tip will add interest and depth to your look, I suggest sticking to one texture as the standout piece and not mixing more than two textures.

Tip #3: Keep it simple, so you don't distract from the overall look. The monochromatic look is going to make you stand out so keep your silhouettes simple and streamline. Sticking with classic separates will make it easier to pair looks together and keep your theme cohesive.

Tip #4: Have fun, play around with this trend and find what you feel comfortable in. Add your favorite accessories to the look and don't be afraid to make a statement!

I hope my tips were helpful and inspire you to try out the monochromatic look with pieces you already have in your closet. Don't forget to like, share, and tag me on Instagram if you try out this trend. Thanks for stopping by loves, See ya!

Bold Lips: My Current favorites

Hey Loves! Kicking off 2018 I am challenging myself to get out of my comfort zone with all things make-up related ( and life related but that's another blog post for another day, lol). For the past few weeks I have been testing out bold lip colors from high end to low end and  I wanted to share my favorites.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Clapback

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Clapback

Currently I have four bold lippies that I am obsessed with:

  1. Maybelline Vivid Liquid Matte in Wicked Berry
  2. NYX Lip Tease in Red Queen
  3. Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipstick in PMS
  4. Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipstick in Clapback ( pictured above)

I love the Maybelline Vivid Matte collection for the wide range of colors and super affordable price, they don't dry down like most liquid lipsticks so you may want to pass if that bothers you. I don't mind it since its winter and  I have been shying away from dry formula lipsticks in general plus the color payoff makes it worth it in my opinion.

I found the NYX Lip Tease in Red Queen about a mointh back and it has replaced most of my previous red matte lipsticks. I love that it drys down quickly, its easy to layer on without getting cakey, and it doesnt dry out your lips like most liquid lipsticks ( oil is one of the key ingriendents).

NYX Slip Tease

Last but not least the newest additions to my bold lip collection and current favs I might add are the Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipsticks. My absolute favorite is PMS which is a gorgeous rich brown  and I am also loving Clapback which is  a muted blue tone. This formula is super creamy and hydrating on the lips, you almost forget your wearing lipstick. Prepare to see PMS on my lips all winter long, and maybe summer too, lol.

That's my round-up loves! I may have a slight addiction to bold colors now, I guess we will see how long this obsession last. See Ya

Best Purchases of 2017

As the year comes to an end I wanted to share my favorite style purchases of 2017. This year I have really tried to focus on quality over quantity to ensure I get longevity out of my clothes and don't end the year with a pile of clothes that don't make it to the next season.

Scrolling through my Instagram feed it was easy for me to choose my top 10 items of 2017 that I have been completely obsessed with. These are items I never want to be without and if I lost them I would immediately repurchase, these items not only elevate any look but they also last through every season and work with multiple looks.

These favorites are also a high/low mix which is my favorite thing, they are all great examples that effortless style does not have to break the bank. If you want to splurge every now and then, go for it ( treat yo self)  but I always try to stick with timeless pieces to ensure I get the best cost per wear! All items are linked at the end of the post in case you see anything you need to add to your wardrobe favorites.

Make sure to leave a comment letting me know if any of my favorites are on your 2017 list as well, also let me know what you want to see on the blog, I have lots planned for the new year beyond just fashion and beauty so feel free to leave any suggestions. See you babes in 2018.

Denizen Mom Jeans

Mom jeans came out of no where in 2017 and I have to admit i became slightly obsessed. I found these Denizen Mom Jeans at Target over the summer and they quickly became my favorite. Unlike most mom jeans I've tried these have the perfect amount of stretch for your curves but still that quality denim feel. They are high rise so they snatch you in and the wash on this pair are perfect. I bought three pair in different sizes to work with different looks, pictured here is a size 5 for when I want to be EXTRA snatched. I also have a size 7 for a comfy cute look and a size 9 for utter relaxation. My normal pant size is a 6. I also distressed two pair with knee slits and hem fraying.

Celine Luggage

Now this bag is one that you don't see a lot of on my Instagram page but this is definitely my most worn bag. This is the perfect travel/work bag, you can fit everything in it and it makes any outfit look chic. I purchased this bag pre-loved from Fashionphile in February of this year and it still looks brand new. I wear it almost everyday to work and I use it as my carry-on whenever I travel.

Gucci Belt

When I tell you I was so hesitant to buy this belt it is no joke, I thought it was too trendy and was overpriced. Well its still overpriced but the amount of times I've worn it has made it a 2017 favorite. Most days I have to stop myself from wearing it because it goes with everything. Trend or not I will be wearing this belt well into 2018!

FullSizeRender (7).jpg

Denim Mini Skirt

Now this one may seem like a very regular staple in most wardrobes but I havent worn a denim skirt since maybe freshman year of college when I was obsessed with Hollister (insert face palm emoji) but this summer I was re-introduced to this baby and it became one of my go to looks. This one is from Zara, and I cut the front a little shorter and threw it in the wash to fray the bottom.

Yellow tinted sunglasses

Summer of 2017 was all about the tinted sunnies and I tried out the yellow tint and fell in love! They give off super retro cool vibes and you can wear them inside since they are so light. With that being said they don't block any sun so plan accordingly, lol. I also love these for the winter since there isn't much sun you can be cute without being blinded by the sun.

These may be up for debate but there is no better shoe right now than a loafer/slide in my opinion. Now with most things you can go high or low and I have done both with this trend. Gucci made this trend popular but you can get similar styles from almost every fast fashion brand in the mall. This style of shoe goes with everything, shorts, denim, dresses, and in the winter I love pairing them with fun socks!

FullSizeRender (4).jpg

OTK sock boots

OTK boots are not a new trend but this season they were reinvented using sock like material and I was here for it! As someone who has skinny ankle problems and struggles to keep boots up this trend was a life saver. This pair are from FancySuccess on Instagram, and they have been my go to boot for skirts and dresses this fall/winter season. Major bonus is that they keep you warm since they are basically OTK socks, need I say more, lol.

Leopard coat

If I had to choose an animal print it would definitely be leopard!!!! I had been on the hunt for a leopard coat for while but at a bargain of course. Forever 21 tried to get me for $80 but I wasn't having it so the hunt continued. Then I found this beauty and the rest was history! Since this is such a statment peice I keep the rest of the look very simple and let the coat shine. ( the coat is linked below, don't worry)

FullSizeRender (1).jpg

tailored red coat

Up until 2017 I hated the color red on me so color me surprised when i tried on a red coat and loved it. The color red snatched everyone edges this season and mine were included. Everytime I wear this coat I get multple compliments. I throw it on with sneakers and leggings or heels and dress pants, it literally works with everything. The key is to find a tailored style that has strong sholders, this helps elevate any look.

ankle sock booties

Last but certaintly not least are ankle sock booties, specifically pointed toe. Basically a heel that feels like a sock, stays up around my skinny ankle and goes with everything. They look great with skirts and dresses when you want to show a little leg but not distract too much. Now that its cold AF outside I love wearing these in the place of pumps, you get the same look but your feet stay warm!

Closet Goals: My Current Closet and Beauty Room

Hey babes! Wanted to share some details on my closet/beauty room. I posted a picture on my Instagram and received a ton of messages on all things closet related, so I figured I would share what I know. I have to give a huge shout out to my fiancé for building this IKEA closet for my birthday 2 years ago, I definitely cant live without it. Its also a great time to share details since IKEA has 10% off all closet organization items every January!

Below are a few examples of storage units similar to mine, but the price will depend on the height you choose, the number of storage units you need, and the amount of rods versus shelves. I also think its a great idea to add on over time, you don't have to start with an entire closet. You can add units every few months depending on your budget. Also these units are movable so you don't have to be settled in your forever home to purchase, they are basically large pieces of furniture so they can be moved.

There are three color options for these units: white, dark brown, and natural wood.

You can also change the layout of your units at any time, during the summer I change the shelved units where my sweaters are currently to a bar and hang my shorts and skirts so I can see them. I use the shelves taken from that area and add them to the boot section to put all of my summer sandals out. There are so many layout options which is what I love about these units.

Now if you really want to step up these units you can customize them to elevate the look by adding doors to the front, crown molding to the edges, and wall paper to the back of each unit. Depending on your preferences these are all great ideas but will definitely make it harder to change them around.

Here are a few of my favorite details from my closet. I hope this helps if you were thinking about closet options. Feel free to like and share this post for any babes in need of some closet inspiration!
